Support FAQ:
If I occasionally add an extra $100 for my missionary, how much do you deduct for the home office?
Not a cent. We send every penny of the extra $100 to the ministry accounts of the missionary.
What if I send a birthday or Christmas gift for my missionary?
No problem. We’ll send the full amount on with the next remittance to the field. At Christmas time we even arrange a special remittance to get the gifts to the field in good time. Personal gifts are acknowledged with a non-tax-deductible receipt.
How much of my contribution goes to salary?
Depending on the field, about 59¢ of every dollar is used for living allowance and housing. The balance is for non-salary items such as transportation, ministry expenses, etc.
How does TEAM demonstrate its accountability for money contributed?
TEAM is a member of the Interdenominational Foreign Missions Association (IFMA) and, among other requirements, must submit audited financial statements annually. These statements are sent to individuals and churches on request.
What happens if the missionary receives support beyond the monthly requirement?
Some people contribute quarterly, some monthly and some annually. Over a year the support averages out. If there is “over support” it goes into the missionary’s ministry on the field.
How does TEAM care for health and retirement needs?
TEAM provides a self-funded medical, dental and vision plan for which single missionaries raise $250 per month ($500 for couples and $750 for families). TEAM also provides a 403b retirement savings plan to enable missionaries to save for retirement. This includes both a personal contribution and additionally a contribution to each missionary’s account from TEAM funds (which were raised by the missionary). This plan is almost identical to the 401k plan that is offered by many companies.
How are salaries set?
TEAM’s compensation package includes a living allowance and housing. The base living allowance for families is set at 75% of the average American teacher salary for the most recent year. (The housing amount easily makes up the other 25%.) Couples receive 85% of the base rate and singles receive 65% of the base rate.
How do you adjust these salaries for the fields?
We purchase a goods and services index for each ministry area from a company that specializes in international compensation and has worked with mission groups for years. By applying this index we try to provide similar buying power for each missionary.
